  1. This distribution contains the following files:

  3.     WFTPD.HLP     - the help file that goes with this program.
  4.    README.TXT     - that should be this file.
  5.  WFTPD241.TXT     - A file briefly describing the features of WFTPD.
  6.   FILE_ID.DIZ     - Short text note of WFTPD's purpose for BBS, etc
  7.  WFTPDPRO.TXT     - Announcement of WFTPD Pro, for Windows NT.
  8.     WSFAQ.TXT     - Frequently Asked Questions on the alt.winsock newsgroup.
  9.     CRYPT.EXE     - A program for creating WFTPD style passwords.

  11. In the Win32 files, for NT and Windows 95 users:
  12.     WFTPD.EXE     - the executable program itself.
  13.  
  14. In the Win16 files, for Windows 3.1x users:
  15.   CTL3DV2.DLL     - Microsoft's 3D control library - only needed for Win3.1x
  16.     WFTPD.EXE     - the executable program itself.
  17.  
  18. IMPORTANT!!!  CTL3DV2.DLL (if you use it) must only go in your
  19. \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories - anywhere else will
  20. result in a warning message every time you start WFTPD.  That
  21. means you should move it to that directory, and delete it from
  22. your main WFTPD directory.  If you have a more recent version in
  23. one of these directories, you may simply delete this one.
  24. CTL3DV2.DLL is ONLY required for Windows 3.1x - Windows 9x, 2000
  25. and NT do NOT need this file, and you may delete it.

  27. Brief installation instructions:
  28. 1. Decide where to install WFTPD.
  29. 2. Select the appropriate components to install:
  30.    WFTPD.HLP   - the help file
  31.    WFTPD.EXE   - the executable file.
  32.    CTL3DV2.DLL - provides the 3D look for Windows 3.1 (if needed)
  33. 3. Copy the first two files (WFTPD.*) to your installation directory
  34. 4. (on Windows 3.1 only) move CTL3DV2.DLL to your Windows directory.
  35. 5. The other files are ancillary text files.  Read them and decide
  36.    whether you want to keep them with your WFTPD installation.  They
  37.    are not required for WFTPD, but may provide useful information.

  39. The registration/ordering instructions and order form are included in
  40. the WFTPD.HLP file.  Please also read the file WFTPDPRO.TXT for
  41. information on WFTPD Pro, the "next generation" of FTP servers for
  42. Windows NT (and soon, for Windows 95) from Texas Imperial Software.
  43. Registration of WFTPD lifts the restrictions placed on editing the
  44. greeting and farewell messages, as well as the limit on the number of
  45. transfers per session.  Registered users with current email addresses
  46. are placed in a mailing list, and kept apprised of new work on WFTPD
  47. and WFTPD Pro.  In a less tangible benefit, each new user is further
  48. encouragement to us to continue work on WFTPD, WFTPD Pro and other
  49. programs.  And, of course, we are more likely to implement requests for 
  50. features from our registered users.

  52. The WFTPD.HLP file is also where all the documentation resides.  To
  53. run it without running WFTPD, use the standard Windows Help, and
  54. use File|Open to open this help file.  On most installations, you
  55. may simply use File|Run from Program Manager, or Start|Run in Windows
  56. 95 / NT 4.0, and enter the path of the help file.  Please read the
  57. help file before running, and for the answers to most of the questions
  58. that have already been asked.

  67. embarrassing, surely, as complaining publicly about a problem, and then
  68. seeing just as public a response from us saying "It's in the
  69. instructions," or "You're running an old version," etc.  The success of
  70. future shareware depends on your encouragement.
